WordPress performance
WordPress speed optimisation
We speed up WordPress sites against Google PageSpeed and Core Web Vitals targets, then keep them there. You get a live Lighthouse audit, a prioritised fix plan written for WordPress, and a lower estimated carbon footprint as a by-product of the same work.

What you get measured on
- Performance
- Mobile and desktop Lighthouse performance score
- LCP
- Largest Contentful Paint, target under 2.5s
- CLS
- Cumulative Layout Shift, target under 0.1
- INP
- Interaction to Next Paint, target under 200ms
- Page weight
- Total transfer and requests, broken down by resource
- CO2e
- Estimated emissions per pageview
These figures are modelled estimates and should not be interpreted as direct measurements of electricity use or greenhouse gas emissions.
Scope of work
What slows WordPress down, and what we fix
Six areas account for almost every failing WordPress PageSpeed score. The audit measures each one on your actual pages rather than working from a generic checklist.
Images and media
Oversized JPEGs, missing WebP or AVIF conversion, no responsive sizes and hero images that are not preloaded. This is where most WordPress page weight hides, and where the fastest Largest Contentful Paint gains come from.
Render-blocking CSS and JavaScript
Page builders and themes commonly load their entire stylesheet and script bundle on every page. We identify what is unused per template so it can be deferred, dequeued or conditionally loaded.
Plugin bloat
Sliders, form builders, social feeds and analytics stacks that load site-wide when they are needed on one page. We name the specific offenders your site is carrying and the cost of each.
Caching and server response
Page caching, object caching, a current PHP version and a sensible time to first byte. Server-level caching lets WordPress serve pages without invoking PHP at all.
Fonts and third-party scripts
Externally hosted fonts, chat widgets, tag managers and tracking pixels that block rendering or shift layout. Each one is measured so you can decide what actually earns its weight.
Delivery
Compression, HTTP/3, CDN coverage and cache headers. Cheap infrastructure wins that reduce both load time and the bytes counted in your emissions estimate.
Process
How the optimisation service works
- 01
PageSpeed and carbon check
Enter your domain and we run it through Google PageSpeed Insights. You get Lighthouse category scores, Core Web Vitals, page weight, request count and estimated CO2e per pageview in under a minute.
- 02
Prioritised WordPress action plan
Every finding becomes a specific fix, ordered by expected impact against implementation effort, written for WordPress rather than generic web advice.
- 03
Implementation by you, your developer or your agency
The plan is deliberately implementable by whoever maintains the site. Nothing is locked behind our tooling.
- 04
Re-scan, tracking and optional verification
We re-scan on a schedule so regressions surface as plugins update and pages get built. Once improvements are evidenced you can apply for verification and publish a badge.
Outcomes
Three returns on the same work
Organic search
Core Web Vitals are a Google ranking signal, and faster pages get crawled more efficiently and hold visitors longer.
Conversion
Every second of delay costs completed enquiries and checkouts. Speed work pays for itself before sustainability enters the argument.
Lower estimated emissions
Fewer bytes and less device work mean a lower modelled CO2e per pageview. The same fixes serve both outcomes.
