Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
This policy sets out the rules for using the Carbon Verified (CarbonVerified.org) service. By using the service, you agree to comply with this policy.
1. Permitted use
You may use the service to assess websites that you own or that you have been authorised to assess by the website owner. If you are an agency, you confirm that your client has authorised you to submit their website for assessment.
You may use assessment results and recommendations internally to improve the websites you manage.
2. Prohibited conduct
You must not:
- Submit a website for assessment without the owner's permission.
- Use the service to scan, probe or audit websites you do not control for the purpose of finding vulnerabilities or security issues.
- Attempt to access another user's account, organisation or assessment data.
- Use the service in a way that could damage, overload or impair the service or its infrastructure.
- Remove, alter or obscure copyright or trademark notices on any content from the service.
- Use automated tools to overwhelm the service (for example, by running unreasonably frequent scans).
3. Verification badge misuse
If you receive a verification badge, you must display it only on the website it was issued for, using the embed code we provide. You must not:
- Display the badge on a website other than the verified one.
- Alter, modify or adapt the badge artwork or verification ID.
- Present the badge in a way that implies carbon neutrality, net zero or any form of offsetting.
- Continue to display the badge after it has expired or been revoked.
- Transfer or sell the badge to a third party.
4. Enforcement
If we become aware of a breach of this policy, we may suspend your account, revoke any verification badge, and take further action as appropriate. We may also report unlawful activity to the relevant authorities.
5. Contact
To report a breach of this policy or ask a question, contact privacy@carbonverified.org.
